Plyo Kettlebell Pushups
An explosive push-up that alternates sides of one fixed kettlebell, switching the hand on the handle.
How to do it
- Place one stable kettlebell on a level surface with room on either side.
- Take a plank position with one hand gripping the handle and the other palm on the floor.
- Brace the trunk and bend the elbows to lower the chest.
- Press explosively to move the upper body laterally across the fixed bell.
- Switch hands so the opposite hand grips the handle and the free palm lands on the floor.
- Settle into the new support position and perform the next push-up before switching again.
Key technique cue
Don't let the lower back sag, land on a steady hand — don't shift the kettlebell.
Common mistakes
- ✕ Letting the lower back sag during the press.
- ✕ Flaring the upper arms straight out to the sides.
- ✕ Losing a secure hand contact when landing.
- ✕ Allowing the kettlebell to tip or travel during the switch.
Benefits
- ✓ Trains explosive upper-body pressing.
- ✓ Challenges trunk control during a moving plank.
- ✓ Adds an alternating hand-support pattern to push-up practice.

About the exercise
This plyometric push-up uses one kettlebell as an offset hand support. One hand grips its handle while the opposite palm rests on the floor. After lowering the chest, an explosive press moves the body sideways so the hands can exchange positions around the same bell. The chest, shoulders and triceps produce the pressing action while the trunk stays braced. Each side gets a full push-up with a quick switch between them. The kettlebell remains planted throughout, so the sequence depends on controlled landings and a stable support.
